With Van Dijk and Salah now signed, things have gone VERY quiet on the Liverpool transfer front, just like usual. Liverpool won the first poll we did on which team rebuild we should do first, so expect to see our choices on where we might target to rebuild the Premier League winners as of next week. United will be second and then the third team we rebuild will be your choice from the poll at the bottom!
The Times says City are leading the chase for Morgan Gibbs-White. I looked into it and am making the literal Alan_Partridge_shrug.gif motion. Meeeeeeh.
Manchester United are in for basically everyone. Part of this is that they have needs almost everywhere across the pitch. And part of this is that any agent that wants to create a vaguely believable market for their player can link them to United with some level of credibility. In recent rumours it’s Matheus Cunha, Semenyo, Tyler Dibling, Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko, a swap deal with Villa for Watkins and Rashford, Onana can leave for 20M.
According to the Daily Mail (horrible rag, but we take our rumours from everywhere) Cunha has a release of £62.5M, which feels like a lot for a 26yo who has been fine but not awesome in his underlying stats in the Premier League? Overperforming your StatsBomb xG by more than 2x is sustainable for the long-term, right? [Hint: it is not. His past season was crazy hot. The season before that was 1.5x overperformance. And the seasons before those showed no overperformance at all. I’d be cautious!]
Reading between the lines, Rasmus Hojlund’s agent has apparently been told to sell him elsewhere for as much money as possible, so expect to get bored of that outbound saga before the end of the summer. (And clock how many times Romano mentions him as a fun side quest.)
Chelsea officially have to buy Jadon Sancho this summer, because they have now locked in a top 15 finish in the Premier League. Unlike Manchester United.
Italy are reporting Fulham are in for AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze this summer, which feels on target and moderately interesting, though his shot locations are 😬 .
Arsenal Nico Williams and Gyokeres, blah blah blah.
City are looking at a move for Porto GK Diogo Costa, which is intriguing. City have a very different GK profile historically in that they want someone who kicks it LONG and accurate, so they can threaten to demolish high presses via route 1 football when required. I kind of love it, though it is very hard to find those types of GKs around the world. The other Manchester team are also alleged to have interest, though are also a bit skint. Maybe they can get a discount on one of Chelsea’s 9 GKs still under contract.
Everton have put Mika Biereth on their summer transfer list. Arguably, EVERYONE should have Biereth on a list. So much so that we’re going to do a profile of him this week, because he’s officially kind of a big deal now. (And a former Hale End Arsenal boy.)
